Google is celebrating spelling bee week by releasing a chart showing the words each state struggles with the most.
Wisconsin can’t spell ‘Wisconsin’ and other revelations from Google’s spelling map

James Dator has been covering a wide range of sports for SB Nation for over a decade, with a special focus on the NFL.
The company explained that they took all searches for “How to spell ____” from each state from January 2017 to April 2017 and compiled the chart. Some of these are forgivable and make sense — like West Virginia and Connecticut trying to spell “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” but other states have no excuse at all.
- Wisconsin, we need to talk. How are you doing up there? Everything OK? It’s come to our attention that people in Wisconsin don’t know how to spell “Wisconsin.” The name of your state is literally spelled like it sounds.
- Oh, Mississippi. You’re having a hard time with “nanny,” eh? I know, I know — putting three different letters in the right order is tough. Quick question: How have you been spelling nanny? Nanney? Nanee? Nanni?
- Hawaii can’t spell “people” for some reason.
- The most misspelled word in America by state searches is “beautiful” which, honestly, it’s good people are clarifying because I’m tired of hearing “America the bootiful.”
What an age to be alive.
