Travis Scott’s new music video for his single “Way Back,” off Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight, is sort of just a seven minute James Harden Adidas advertisement.
Travis Scott’s newest music video is basically a James Harden Adidas commercial
Scott is from Houston and shouts out Harden in the song.
It starts with Harden watching sports shows talk negatively about him, and then he watches more sports shows talk negatively about him on retro televisions. Then Harden ends up on the court playing against himself — both Hardens swagged out in full Adidas, of course.
The video’s slightly odd, and I say this as a huge Travis fan. It feels like it’s halfway toward being a mini movie and then stops short. The two Hardens must be an allusion toward Harden being the only person who could stop him — an internal struggle, or whatever you will.
Scott shouts out Harden in the hook (“James Harden with the range”), and they’re friends since Scott is from Houston, where Harden obviously plays for the Rockets. But hey, the visuals are real dope, and Harden’s beard is looking great as always. So it’s hard to complain too much. It almost feels like a David Lynch creation in a couple of spots.
What’s funny is that Scott is actually fronting a Nike ad campaign, but Harden’s Adidas ties clearly won out for this video.
