Evan Turner needed to vent on Friday when he learned the price of an Egg McMuffin had risen to $3.50.
Evan Turner is right, Egg McMuffin price variation is ruining America

It’s unclear where Turner is right now that an Egg McMuffin is $3.50, but it’s obviously a premium market. FastFoodMenuPrices.com shows that the average price in the U.S. is $2.79, but this is all aside from the point.
The issue isn’t the cost of the McMuffin in isolation, but it’s the woeful inconsistency of McMuffin pricing. Half the time you get to a McDonald’s, and it’s selling two for $3, and the other times you end up paying the same for a single McMuffin.
Firstly: Turner is right that a McMuffin should not cost more than $3.
Secondly: He’s making the right breakfast choice, because the humble McMuffin is the best breakfast item on the McDonald’s menu.
Sure, Big Breakfast purists will come out of the woodwork along with the McGriddle mafia — but the McMuffin is simple, pure, and perfect. Just a fried egg, a slightly-soggy English muffin, cheese and ham. Its execution makes it shine above all other items.
The whole breakfast experience is fundamentally ruined by the wild variances in the McMuffin pricing structure. Either the deal is far too good or not good enough, and there’s no middle ground. I stand with Evan Turner and his problems with the price. This needs to be fixed.
