What is #RTArmageddon and how does it relate to the 76ers?

It’s the end of the Sixers as we know ‘em.

Watch out, people of Twitter — if you tweeted about the Philadelphia 76ers being bad in the recent past, you may find yourself in the middle of the armageddon. #RTArmageddon, that is.

The hashtag — started by Sixers fans after the team traded the Boston Celtics for the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft — features fans retweeting posts by other fans and reporters doubting the future of their team. People who didn’t, in other words, “trust the process.”

The one thing they teach you about the internet is that once something’s on the web, it’s there forever. And that’s what Sixers fans seem to be proving with this hashtag, which includes some beautiful reminders of how quickly things can (maybe) change in sports.

Some tweets seem particularly ironic after the news that guard Markelle Fultz will likely be joining the team in the draft.

Uh oh.

Seems a tad harsh.

There really are a lot of layers to this one — see if you can spot them all!

But considering the hashtag is all about calling out people who DIDN’T “trust the process,” there’s a lot of self-snitching going on here. If you weren’t on board with the process months ago, then why would you air yourself out now? It doesn’t quite make sense, but hey, people do wild things during the armageddon.

It does take courage to admit it.

You never know, technically this could still be true!

Which is another reason #RTArmageddon is so ridiculous — Sixers fans are acting like their fate is sealed now, but there’s no guarantee that we should definitely trust the process. If the Sixers do take Fultz, it’ll be a big boost to their team, but nothing in sports is certain.

So as the draft approaches, keep your eyes on the hashtag — it’s totally ridiculous and VERY Philadelphia, but definitely a fun look at an excited fanbase.
