Let’s face it — everyone in the NBA wants to be a musician. We have LeBron and KD making mediocre rap songs, Damian Lillard releasing entire albums under the name Dame D.O.L.L.A., and Lonzo Ball dropping a track just to prove he can.
Knicks owner James Dolan would rather play a concert with his band than watch the NBA draft
Because music stops for no one!

But none of those musical efforts are as impressive as Knicks owner James Dolan, who is the singer of the Americana band JD & The Straight Shot. And Dolan takes his music SO seriously that he might be skipping Thursday’s NBA draft to play a show instead.
That’s right, according to the band’s website, they have a show DURING the NBA draft — which means Dolan won’t be with his team during the big night.
That’s dedication — after all, given the general chaos of the Knicks’ offseason so far, you might think Dolan would want to be there to make sure his team makes good decisions. But instead, he’ll be grooving to the acoustic strumming of The Straight Shot as he croons bluesy ballads about lost love.
If you haven’t heard their music, please give it a listen.
Yes, that man owns a professional basketball team.
The show is at City Winery in New York City, and if you’re curious, tickets only cost $25. Which is $100 less than the average ticket to a Knicks game! And for JD & The Straight Shot, it seems like there isn’t much concern about the draft here — the show will go on, as the band has continued to promote it on social media even as draft day gets closer.
So maybe Dolan just has a lot of faith in his team’s management — or, even more likely, he’s hoping that if the draft goes poorly, it will give him the “basketball blues” to inspire his next album.
