On Monday night, the NBA is honoring its finest athletes with the NBA Awards on TNT, and the show is hosted but none other than everyone’s favorite rapper ... Drizzy Drake.
Drake is hosting the NBA Awards, so here are his best lyrics about basketball
His favorite team? All of them!

Yes, the guy who shoots like this:
It’s pretty obvious that the NBA didn’t pick Champagne Papi for his basketball skills — the man is NOT there to make buckets.
Instead, he’s there to do what he does best: entertain. And throughout his career, he’s done that with his music ... music that often name drops Drake’s friends and heroes in the NBA.
So before you watch the Drake on stage tonight, introducing his much taller, much less-likely-to-airball friends, let’s revisit some of his best songs that feature lines about basketball — after all, Drake might be a Raptors fan, but he’ll shout out any NBA team on a track.
Here are 10 of Drake’s best raps about current NBA players and teams:
Song: “Summer Sixteen”
Line: “Golden State running practice at my house”
Technically, Golden State has never practiced at Drake’s house, but Steph Curry did say he’s played basketball there before — and stretching the truth a little in a rap song never hurt anybody. And for added value, Drake name drops Draymond Green on the same track!
Song: “Free Smoke”
Line: “I took the team plane from Oracle, Mama never used to cook much / Used to chef KD, now me and Chef, KD”
More Golden State flexes. Somehow, Drake is able to compare his old life making mac and cheese to his new life hanging out with the Warriors on their plane. And that’s pretty cool.
Song: “Weston Road Flows”
Line: “A lot of people just hit me up when my name is mentioned / Shout out to KD, we relate, we get the same attention / It’s rainin’ money, Oklahoma City Thunder / The most successful rapper 35 and under”
This line is a true relic of its time (2016), as it shouts out a KD who was still playing in Oklahoma City! Oh, how things change. Good to know that it rains money in Oakland too, however.
Song: “0-100/The Catch Up”
Line: “Fuck all that rap-to-pay-your-bill shit / I’m on some Raptors-pay-my-bills shit”
Finally, some love for Drake’s hometown team — even if it’s just about how much they pay him to be their team ambassador while he spends the rest of his time rooting for other teams. Go Raptors!
Song: “0-100/The Catch Up”
Line: “I been Steph Curry with the shot / Been cookin’ with the sauce, Chef Curry with the pot, boy”
Same song and we’re back to the Warriors! Couldn’t leave out Steph, Drake’s good personal friend and, oh yeah, really good basketball player. Plus, the Curry family actually got down to the line while cooking in the kitchen, which makes the line even better.
Song: DJ Khaled’s “No New Friends”
Line: “Man, this shit so ill that we had to restart it / H-Town my second home like I’m James Harden”
Ooh, switching it up. A nice shout out to James Harden and Houston, where Drake’s dad is from and he spent part of his childhood. Also, the Rockets used Drake’s album cover to make a case for Harden for MVP over Russell Westbrook this year, which was funny.

Song: “Can’t Have Everything
Line: “Oh, triple-double, Russ face / Watch with the bust face”
Of course, because Drake is the ultimate bandwagon fan, he also has a Russell Westbrook line — and, yes, it’s about his triple-doubles. Tonight ... we’ll find out which of Drake’s BFFs is the real MVP.
Song: “5AM in Toronto”
Line: “I’m on my King James shit, I’m tryin’ to win here again”
Drake and LeBron James have a long history, whether it be LeBron offering to buy Drake margaritas or Drake giving LeBron his music before it even comes out. But to find a reference to the King on on one of Drake’s songs, you have to go all the way back to 2013, where he spits this simple brag about winning a lot, which LeBron (usually) does.
Song: “6 Man”
Lyric: “Boomin’ out in South Gwinnett like Lou Will / 6 man like Lou Will, two girls and they get along like I’m ... Lou Will, I just got the new deal”
Drake’s best NBA line isn’t a shout out to one of the all-time greats ... it’s a tribute to former Raptors sixth man Lou Williams, who both won NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 2015 and allegedly had two girlfriends at the same time. Perfect rap song material.
