A complete history of people mocking Phil Jackson using OutKast’s ‘Ms. Jackson’ on Twitter

“I’m sorry, Phil Jackson, ooh / I am for real ...”

LaFace/Arista Records

First of all, play this instrumental of OutKast’s “Ms. Jackson” to set the mood.

Now you’re ready to read all these tweets like André 3000 singing the chorus. Here’s a history of people clowning on Phil Jackson using the song.

May 2009 — The Magic win the Eastern Conference to face the Lakers in the NBA Finals. The Lakers would eventually become champions that year:

April 2010 — The Thunder face the Lakers in the first round of the NBA playoffs. This was before the Lakers took Game 1:

May 2010 — The Lakers have their first loss to the Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference finals. The Lakers would go on to win the series, and then win the Finals:

May 2011 — The Lakers get swept by the Mavericks in the Western Conference semis, the last time Phil Jackson coached in the league:

November 2012 — Lakers have an awful start to the 2012-13 season. The team subsequently fires Mike Brown as head coach, and reports go around saying Phil Jackson is close to rejoining the team. The team ultimately hires Mike D’Antoni:

December 2012 - July 2013 — People decide to make general Twitter jokes using Phil Jackson’s name in “Ms. Jackson”:

March 2014 — The Knicks hire Phil Jackson as president of basketball operations:

May 2014 — Steve Kerr becomes Warriors head coach after turning down an offer from the Knicks:

May 2014 - January 2015 — Even more general Phil Jackson/”Ms. Jackson” jokes:

January 2015 — The Knicks trade J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert to the Cavaliers in a three-team deal that also involves the Thunder.

May 2015 — The Cavs defeat the Bulls in the Eastern Conference semis. People are happy J.R. Smith’s succeeding without Phil Jackson and the Knicks, especially a fan who wrote a song in honor of post-Knicks Smith (the song references “Ms. Jackson.”)

June 2015 — J.R. Smith fans are still happy he’s in the Finals. A handful of people tweet the same joke to the Comedy Central show @midnight:

June 2015 - June 2017 — The Knicks draft Kristaps Porzingis, who quickly becomes a fan favorite during his first season, and the best thing that’s happened to the franchise in years.

There are more general Phil Jackson/OutKast jokes.

J.R. Smith wins an NBA championship with the Cavs.

There are discussions that the Knicks should trade Carmelo Anthony; Anthony intends to stay with the Knicks.

In a press conference, Jackson basically admits he’s trying to trade Anthony.

Then there are reports that Jackson is trying to trade Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis skips the exit interview after the 2016-17 season.

This is all a mess. The Knicks are bad.

Also, a photo of Phil Jackson riding a public bus went around the internet, and everyone had jokes:

June 28, 2017 — The Knicks and Phil Jackson part ways, and finally a handful of people get more creative with their “Ms. Jackson” parodies:

These Phil Jackson/”Ms. Jackson” jokes are going to continue forever. (André 3000 voice) Forever, forever-ever, forever-ever?
