A programmer has done the incredible and created a real-world augmented reality app that allows anywhere to become the iconic 1-1 level from Super Mario Bros.
This augmented reality program turned Central Park into a ‘Super Mario’ level

Abhishek Singh uploaded his creation to YouTube, which shows him using his creation on Microsoft Hololens, a self-contained computer built into glasses which can project holographic images into an environment. This allowed Singh to turn Central Park into a Mario level.
It works more-or-less exactly as you’d hope it would. Goombas can be jumped on, blocks hit to gain power ups, and there are pits that require you to leap in the real world. The app was a test by Singh and he doesn’t have plans to sell it, noting in YouTube comments the copyright issues due to him recreating Nintendo’s level.
That said, this is an incredible glimpse into where we’re headed, and perhaps the future of exercise. Until this kind of technology becomes more widespread you’ll still be the weirdo in the park jumping images nobody else is seeing, however.
