Tour de France rider withdraws after falling and slamming into a crowd barrier

Luke Durbridge of the Orica-Scott team had to withdraw during Stage 2 of the Tour de France. Durbridge had a nasty crash the day before, thanks to the roads being wet from the rain. In the video above, you can see him slip during a turn and slide into a barrier, topping a segment of it completely. Durbridge finished Stage 1 in second-to-last place, and tried to race in Stage 2. Unfortunately, he was too injured to continue.
Durbridge was not the only person to crash during Stage 1; Dylan Groenewegen of Lotto NL-Jumbo had the unfortunate honor of taking the race’s first crash:
Durbridge was also not the only one to withdraw from the race. Alejandro Valverde of Movistar and Jon Izaguirre had to bow out during Stage 1 after their respective crashes. Stage 2 is a lot drier than what everyone saw on Saturday, so hopefully the rest of the racers will have their rides go along more smoothly.
