2028 Olympics will be in Los Angeles, per report

After a compromise, Paris will host the 2024 Games.

At 8 p.m. ET on Monday, the Los Angeles 2024 Olympic Bid Committee will hold a press conference where it will likely announce that L.A. will be the host of the 2028 Olympics, according to ESPN.

The announcement follows an apparent compromise that will give Paris the 2024 Games and L.A. the following Summer Olympics in 2028. The Olympics have not been in the United States since 1996, when they were hosted in Atlanta.

The Olympics will officially be given to these cities at the 130th International Olympic Committee session in Lima, Peru, on Sept. 13, but the decision came after last month’s IOC meeting where the membership approved giving the 2024 and 2028 Games to Paris and L.A., respectively.

And while no official announcement will be made until Monday night, U.S. fans who want to see the Olympics without leaving the country can start to mark their calendars for the Games in 11 years — not so long when you consider the last Olympics in Los Angeles were held 33 years ago:

UPDATE: In a statement released on Monday, President Donald Trump voiced his support for the Olympics coming to Los Angeles. Here is an excerpt from the president’s remarks:

For the first time in a generation, the Olympics are coming back to the United States, and I am proud to support LA 2028.

I want to congratulate the United States Olympic Committee and the entire bid team for developing a plan that will ensure LA 2028 demonstrates the best in American creativity, innovation, and hospitality.

The United States has a remarkable history of passionate and loyal support for the Olympic Movement. No country has won more Olympic medals or trained more Olympic and Paralympic athletes. America always shines brightly during the Games, and LA 2028 will be no exception.
