Two radio hosts in Australia devised a new race that should be its own Olympic sport: the 100m dash to fifth. The idea is to run a normal race, but only the person who crosses the line in fifth place is the winner.
Finishing 5th in a 100m race on purpose is surprisingly hard

Hamish & Andy devised a series of events for chefs to compete against servers. The 100m was an out-and-out dash until inches from the finish line where everyone had to pause and play chicken, trying to goad each other over the line.
It ended up being so close that it was a photo finish:
There’s something to this. Making it a team event means there’s a lot of mind games at the finish. Everyone who crosses the line pulls the event closer to the coveted fifth place, but it also means teams have less competitors. In the Olympics, we could set this up in country-vs.-country heats.
Just think about some events that are already Olympic sports before you write this off as being ludicrous.
