Another piece of your childhood is getting reworked. Ralph Macchio will reprise his role as Daniel LaRusso when The Karate Kid is turned into a 10-part comedy series called Cobra Kai, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
‘The Karate Kid’ is being turned into a comedy series for YouTube
Yes, Ralph Macchio is back.

Macchio will join his co-star William Zabka, who played Johnny Lawrence in the 1984 film — with the pair facing off again, this time as instructors at their own dojos. The series will deal with the death of Daniel’s mentor, Mr. Miyagi, who was played by the late Pat Morita.
Honestly, the idea sounded kind of neat — and then I read on. It’s being written by the teams behind Hot Tub Time Machine and the Harold and Kumar series. This could mean the show lacks some of the heart that made The Karate Kid such a classic. Time will tell. The writers have high hopes, saying in a statement:
“Like everyone who grew up in the 1980s, the three of us are enormous fans of The Karate Kid,” Heald, Hurwitz and Schlossberg said in a joint statement. ”Cobra Kai will be a true continuation of the original films — packed with comedy, heart and thrilling fight scenes. We can’t wait to reignite the LaRusso-Lawrence rivalry, and we’re thankful to our partners at YouTube Red, Sony Pictures Television and Overbrook for their shared enthusiasm in making our dream project a reality.”
According to the report, there was interest by Netflix and Hulu in the series, but it will instead be available on Google’s “YouTube Red” service.
