Lakers fans have this thing they do, where they take any prestigious player who’s preparing to hit free agency and photoshop them into a Lakers gold uniform. I actually find it endearing — they’re so earnest! But it’s especially great when these players that they’re fantasizing about commit somewhere else.
Everyone’s laughing at the Lakers after Russell Westbrook re-signed in OKC
All the Lakers jerseys photoshops go to heaven now.

Russell Westbrook re-signed the largest extension in NBA history, locking him up for five years at $205 million to stay in Oklahoma City. The Lakers photoshops of Westbrook are going to heaven now, because their time has come. Naturally, Twitter is there to send them off.
You could find a hundred more of these photoshops (and jokes) if you look, I promise. It’s a phenomenon that isn’t going away.
Why did Lakers fans think Westbrook would sign with them?
Because they think every star is going to sign with them.
Was there any other reason?
I mean, sure. Westbrook is from Los Angeles, growing up in Long Beach, California, and attending college at UCLA. And before signing this, Westbrook was set to be a free agent next summer. And yes, given Kevin Durant’s departure, it made sense that maybe Westbrook would want to leave — as long as you ignored the fact that he said he didn’t want to leave and loved Oklahoma City. But it wasn’t totally manufactured out of thin air.
How does this affect the Lakers?
They could still sign Paul George or maybe even LeBron James. And they have Lonzo Ball!
How does this affect Lakers fans?
They’ll keep photoshopping Lakers jerseys onto every superstar in the league, don’t worry.
