Zion Williamson and a ‘jelly’ layup stole the show at the McDonald’s All-American dunk contest
Two works of art.

I think Zion Williamson just dunked his way into my heart.
The 17-year-old Duke commit pulled off one of the most difficult slams at the McDonald’s All-American Games. He threw the ball of the backboard and grabbed it in mid-air, casually putting it through his legs and finishing with the dunk.
This dunk almost looks like the one Jason Richardson pulled off in the NBA Dunk Contest back in 2004 when he took on Fred Jones. That dunk is personally one of my all-time favorites, but Williamson’s is arguably better than that one. Williamson gets a greater extension and more hang time. It’s the perfect combination of working off of nostalgia and tweaking it enough to where it’s your own.
We need Williamson in an NBA Dunk Contest.
In that same event, Jahvon Quinerly pulled off one of the most lovely jelly layups ever seen. It’s the basketball equivalent of composing a portrait with watercolors. It’s difficult, but masterful.
