Shaquille O’Neal is impatient, a quality he shared on The Late Late Show with James Corden. Normally that’s fine — except when you’re trying to buy $70,000 worth of goods at Walmart.
Shaq says his credit card got declined in 2008 because he tried to spend $70K at Walmart
This sounds impossible.

Shaq told the story of the time he tried to go on a 2 a.m. shopping spree after being traded to the Phoenix Suns in 2008. He arrived to an empty apartment and had to furnish it, immediately, so like the rest of us he took a trip to Walmart.
“I gotta go get four or five TVs, I gotta go get printers, I gotta go get laptops. I gotta get appliances, sheets, towels, underwear, T-Shirts. So at the end it was $70,000.”
Now look, $70,000 is chump change to Shaq — so I get it. More than anything I’m stunned that he found a way to spend THAT much money at Walmart. It’s tough to narrow down exactly what Shaq put in his cart 10 years ago, but I went online to find out precisely how much you could get at Walmart with $70,000, assuming you bought the most expensive item in each of Shaq’s categories that were available in store.
- 5x LG 65” Class 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV: $4,240 ($848 each)
- 5x Dell Inspiron 15.6” Gaming Laptop: $5,021.25 ($1,004.25 each)
- 5x Epson Expression ET-2550 Printer: $1,095 ($219 each)
- Frigidaire 26 Cubic Foot Side-By-Side Refrigerator: $1,306.99
- Maytag Maxima XL Front Load Steam Washer and Steam Dryer: $2,979.87
- Thor Kitchen 36” Professional Free Standing Gas Range with Griddle: $2,699
- Sharp 1.4 Cu Ft Microwave: $120.88
I’m giving up. At this point I’ve done EVERY big ticket on Shaq’s list. Even going to the excess of buying FIVE gaming laptops and FIVE printers — and his total is $17,462.74.
THIS MEANS SHAQ HAS $52,537.26 TO SPEND ON CLOTHES AND SHEETS AT WALMART.
I just don’t understand how this is remotely possible. I know TVs were way more expensive in 2008, but I just don’t know how that could make up the kind of gap we’re talking about here.
