Someone on a plane couldn’t believe Tony Hawk knew how to ride a skateboard

James Dator has been covering a wide range of sports for SB Nation for over a decade, with a special focus on the NFL.

The slow and inevitable march of time trudges on without respite or hope of renewal. Tony Hawk learned that the hard way, courtesy of a chance meeting with a passenger on a plane.

I love the idea that someone saw 49-year-old Hawk and was like “Yeah, he’s way too busted to be a skater.” In their defense, Hawk kind of looks like a gangly cool dude at this point, rather than an elite athlete but still ... it’s Tony Hawk.

Really this is all a humorous vehicle for me to share the time CNBC asked Hawk about the Adidas basketball scandal and the ensuing awkwardness.
