The University of Toledo broke our hearts on Tuesday when the school announced their campaign earlier in the day to make Shrek the school’s mascot is was “not meant to be taken seriously.”
Designing the off-brand ‘Shrek’ mascot Toledo deserves
Shrok or Shork. The choice is theirs now.

It’s OK Toledo, you can tell us. It’s because y’all worked out that there was no way you could get the official rights to the Shrek IP, isn’t it? We know it is. It’s OK though, because your friends at SB Nation have come through for you with two alternate unofficial spiritual successors to Shrek for your use.
SHROK AND MULE
If you’ll notice, Shrok is wearing Toledo’s colors. The shape of his tunic is designed to be evocative of the letter “T,” without beating you over the head with it. His angry grimace is perfect for the angry Grimace we’ve created here.
Mule is just a mule. What did you expect?
SHORK
Shork is a sassy, speared version of the classic Shrek but definitely not protected by copyright because of the mustache and pink vest. This is an entirely new creation designed to attract a whole new generation of sports fans.
YOU’RE WELCOME, TOLEDO.
We have solved a complicated problem for you. We require no payment, just let us meet your new bootleg mascot when he is created.
