NBA Twitter had sooooo much fun with Bryan Colangelo’s alleged burner accounts

What a night.

Bryan Colangelo’s alleged Twitter habits consumed the sports world on Tuesday night. The Ringer posted a story reporting that the Sixers’ president of basketball operations had been running a series of burner accounts that criticized players, coaches — even leaked sensitive medical information.

This wouldn’t be the first time the NBA had a burner account controversy. In 2017, Kevin Durant was caught defending himself on Instagram using a fake account — but that was pretty tame compared to Colangelo’s alleged process.

Joel Embiid was quick to react.

CJ McCollum decided to check in, as a friend.

It wasn’t long before Embiid stopped tweeting and relied on a statement to do the talking.

Then Colangelo issued a statement.

“Like many of my colleagues in sports, I have used social media as a means to keep up with the news. While I have never posted anything whatsoever on social media, I have used the @Phila1234567 Twitter account referenced in this story to monitor our industry and other current events. This storyline is disturbing to me on many levels, as I am not familiar with any of the other accounts that have been brought to my attention, nor do I know who is behind them or what their motives may be in using them.”

Twitter sleuths started looking deeper into the alleged burner accounts.

With one strong challenge to Colangelo’s assertion he had no clue about the most-critical burner accounts.

But there were also jokes. Lots and lots of jokes.

Even NBA owners and execs had some fun.

Then on Wednesday morning the Sixers released a statement.

This has truly been the most magical year in the NBA.
