An Illinois man wanted to watch Arizona Wildcats basketball so badly he’s now facing a possible jail term for felony identity theft for financial gain, and unauthorized use of an entity’s identifying information.
Man charged with impersonating restaurant employee to add Pac-12 Network to their cable package
This is loving your team too much.

51-year-old Kevin M. Cayton, the finance manager of a car dealership, was caught pretending to be the manager of a local restaurant in phone calls with their cable company, all in an attempt to add the Pac-12 Network to their cable package.
The restaurant, Buffalo Phil’s, caught onto the scheme when they noticed a sharp uptick in their monthly cable bill. After speaking with Spectrum (the restaurant’s cable carrier) managers of the restaurant contacted authorities, realizing that someone was impersonating their employees.
Police ultimately obtained recordings of 12 different phone calls in which Cayton pretended to be a restaurant manager in speaking with Spectrum customer service asking for the Pac-12 Network to be added. According to the Baraboo News Republic:
“In one of the recordings, the caller allegedly stepped away from the phone and spoke with someone else in the background, saying “Hey it’s Kevin.” In another call, police say, someone can be overheard purchasing a vehicle in the background and explaining that they work a second job at a health care facility in Illinois.”
Cayton was released on a $2,000 bail and could face up to six years per count if convicted.
