This guy set an astounding world record with his ‘Super Mario Bros.’ speed run

Nobody has ever run the game this fast.

Super Mario Bros. is one of the crown jewels in the world of speed running, and now there is a new king.

Kosmic, aset an astounding 4:55.913 time with his warp run of the original Super Mario Bros. Nobody has ever run a 4:55 before, and it’s good enough to rival tool assisted speedruns (TAS) in which computers play the game to perfection.

Kosmic made the record run less than two weeks after he tied the world record. So now, something that people have attempted tens-of-thousands of times over a decade, just got beaten by twice in a series of weeks.

To give you a sense of how unlikely this is, watch this breakdown of level 4-2 to understand how complex the world of speed running this game is.
