The quest for perfection is a road paved with sacrifice. Athletes lose time with loved ones to get in more practices, events are missed while training in the gym, and for one man the last two weeks of his life have been devoted to an incredibly esoteric goal: Pitch a perfect game with Roy Oswalt in MLB MVP Baseball 2005.
Viral streamer FINALLY got his perfect game with Roy Oswalt in ‘MLB MVP Baseball 2005’
What a legend.
Streaming on TikTok, user “Jay Lucarelli Sports” began his quest on August 6 in an attempt to pitch a perfect game with Roy Oswalt of the Houston Astros. This took almost eight hours of streaming every day, with hours-upon-hours of heartbreak and missed opportunities along the way. Then on Sunday night he decided to make one final epic push, refusing to end the stream until he got his perfect game — and on attempt 1,993 it finally happened.
The thing that really sticks out about this clip is that it’s largely devoid of excitement. This is not a man who is overjoyed to get the perfect game, but rather relieved that this marathon effort is finally over. There had to be dozens of moments during those almost 2,000 attempts that he just wanted to quit, thought it was impossible, or was endlessly frustrated with the CPU screwing him over at the worst time, but persistence is the key to victory — and when the dust settled he was victorious.
You should go check out Jay Lucarelli Sports to see dozens of clips of his attempts over the last two weeks. The Astros should fly the Ohio native down to Houston and put him in a suite for a game to commemorate this achievement.
