Jonny Venters pitched out of a bit of a jam in the top of the eighth, when he was able to strike out both Juan Uribe and Mike Fontenot with two men on. That took us to the bottom half, where Alex Gonzalez led off with a sharply-hit single just over the head of Freddy Sanchez - only the Braves' second hit of the day against Jonathan Sanchez.

Sanchez then got Brooks Conrad to pop out on a bunt attempt, but with Troy Glaus due up as a pinch-hitter for Rick Ankiel, Bruce Bochy decided to come out and replace Sanchez with the right-handed Sergio Romo. Sanchez's performance:
7.1 innings
2 hits
1 walk
11 strikeouts
Once Romo entered the game, Bobby Cox pinch-hit Eric Hinske for Glaus, taking Glaus out of the game without ever actually entering.
