The Phillies got what they wanted out of Ryan Madson in the top of the eighth. Madson needed just nine pitches to throw a perfect inning in relief of Roy Halladay, finishing with a strikeout of Nate Schierholtz.

But the Giants, in turn, got what they wanted from their bullpen as well. Sure enough, Tim Lincecum was pulled after seven innings, with two lefties due up. Bruce Bochy called on Javier Lopez to pitch to Chase Utley and Ryan Howard, and Lopez set them both down.
Bochy then went to closer Brian Wilson to finish the inning off, and after he allowed a single to Jayson Werth, he struck out Jimmy Rollins with a 95mph fastball even though he'd fallen behind 3-1.
And so we're off to the ninth, with the game still 4-3 Giants. If the Phillies can hold San Francisco where they are, then they'll send Raul Ibanez, Carlos Ruiz, and a pinch-hitter up against Wilson.
