Prior to Saturday's game against the Phillies -- a hugely important game in and of itself -- Braves manager Bobby Cox was honored in a ceremony on the Turner Field grass in light of his imminent retirement. Like most managers, Cox isn't an attention-seeker, and I'd imagine that the ceremony made him feel equal parts touched and uncomfortable. Some of the ceremony's highlights:

- Chipper Jones, in his turn to speak, took the opportunity to mention that reliever Peter Moylan has, on at least one occasion, danced naked in the locker room to techno music. This elicited a mixture of cheers and AAAAAGHHGHs from the crowd.
- As an aside, former general manager John Scheurholz gave a hat tip to Henry Aaron, referring to him as “the real home run champion of baseball.” Rarely do we see this expressed in such an official capacity.
- Cox himself delivered a very brief speech, and he took the time to congratulate the N.L. East champion Phillies. The crowd booed.
Now, we’ll see whether Cox can bring a fitting end to this day of tribute by a) beating the Phillies, and b) getting himself ejected.
