It's been presumed, based on some quotes and educated guesswork, that Tommy Hunter would be the Rangers' Game 4 starter in the World Series, and that Vladimir Guerrero would get an opportunity in the outfield during games in San Francisco. And now, courtesy of T.R. Sullivan, we have confirmation:
Tommy Hunter To Start Game 4 For Rangers; Vladimir Guerrero To Start In Right Field
The Texas Rangers starting rotation for the World Series will be: Game 1 - LHP Cliff Lee, Game 2- LHP CJ Wilson, Game 3 - RHP Colby Lewis, Game 4 - RHP Tommy Hunter.
Vladimir Guererro will definitely start Game 1 at AT& T Park as the right fielder. He may also start Game 2, but that has not yet been decided.
Hunter gets the nod over lefty Derek Holland, who was a distant candidate after turning in some strong work out of the bullpen. Hunter has struggled in his two postseason starts, while Holland has excelled in relief. But Ron Washington has opted against switching both of their roles, and likely prefers to have Hunter's right-handedness start against the Giants' predominantly right-handed lineup anyway.
As for Guerrero, this is going to be an experiment. Washington likes having Guerrero's bat in the lineup. However, Guerrero has been a regular designated hitter, and doesn't move very well anymore. So Game 1 will be a test. If he handles right field, he'll get the start again in Game 2. If he struggles, then David Murphy will slide in, and Guerrero will come off the bench.
