Okay, so let's get this all straight. First, early Wednesday morning, we heard a rumor that the Brewers had an agreement in principle with Bobby Valentine, and were close to making him their new manager.
Bobby Valentine And Brewers Do Not Have Agreement In Principle
Next, Adam McCalvy and Jon Heyman denied that any such agreement was in place.
After that, Bobby Valentine himself said that he had met with the team, but stated in a matter-of-fact fashion that he and the Brewers had not at any point discussed any contract.
And now we have this - the strongest indication yet that Wednesday morning’s rumor was all smoke and no flame:
Brewers GM Doug Melvin just said, through PR man Mike Vassallo, that there is no agreement in principle with Bobby Valentine to be manager.
By putting the pieces together, we can see that Valentine is one of the Brewers’ four finalists to take over as the team’s field manager. However, that’s all we know. He’s a finalist, and he’s met with the front office. If the Brewers are leaning in any particular direction, we can’t yet say which.
