By this point Wednesday night, there was already a run on the board, and Tim Lincecum didn't look like himself. But in Game 2, the first inning passed by with little of significance.
World Series Game 2, Rangers Vs. Giants: Matt Cain, C.J. Wilson Effective In First
The Giants took the field to a little less fanfare than they did a night ago, perhaps the result of some chillier weather and strong winds to left. But if the cool weather was making it more difficult to throw a ball, Matt Cain didn't show it. He got Elvis Andrus to fly out to center to lead off. A couple pitches later, Michael Young popped out to short. And to finish things off, Josh Hamilton popped out to third on a pitch high and tight. Cain didn't give the Rangers much to hit in the zone, but they swung anyway, and it didn't work.
That took us to the bottom of the first, where C.J. Wilson was able to bounce back from his recent miserable start in New York to match zeroes with Cain. Wilson made Andres Torres disappear on a groundout. Freddy Sanchez followed with another groundout to Ian Kinsler's left at second base. Kinsler had to dive to make the stop and threw to first from his back, where it appeared that Mitch Moreland may have taken his foot off the bag. The out call was made, however, and the inning ended when Buster Posey lifted a lazy fly to right.
Six up, six down, and we go to the second still scoreless.
