Ron Washington drew heavy criticism in Game 2 for his reluctance to use rookie closer Neftali Feliz in what turned out to be a seven-run eighth inning for the Giants. Washington then came out and said he would use Feliz one way or another in Game 3. It just so happens that Game 3 provided Washington and Feliz with a save situation, and in his familiar role, Feliz came out and got the job done with little trouble.
World Series Game 3, Giants Vs. Rangers: Neftali Feliz Slams The Door In Win
The first batter he saw was Pat Burrell, and, pumping high-90s heat, Feliz got Burrell to strike out for the fourth time in four trips to the plate. The at bat lasted four pitches and concluded with a 98mph fastball.
The next batter was Cody Ross, who had previously hit a solo home run in the seventh inning. Ross fell behind 0-2 before sending another fly ball deep into the outfield, but this one settled short of the track in right for the second out.
The Giants' last hope was Juan Uribe, who delivered a big home run in Game 1. There were no such heroics this time around, as Uribe struck out on a 99mph high fastball to end the game and give the Rangers their first World Series win in franchise history.
The series now stands two games to one in San Francisco's favor, and Sunday's Game 4 will pit Madison Bumgarner against Tommy Hunter.
