It only took them five games to erase decades’ worth of cursed history, and just like that, the San Francisco Giants are World Champions. Along the way, Buster Posey established himself as a possible facsimile for Jesus, America fell in love with Brian Wilson’s beard, and we learned that people in San Francisco smoke a lot of weed.
The Giants Win The World Series: Let The Celebration Begin (Photos)
And then, the celebrations began.
The San Francisco Giants weren’t even supposed to make the playoffs this year. They were supposed to get killed by the Phillies’ pitching. McCovey Chronicles, SB Nation’s Giants blog, had this to say before that series: “Every pitcher is Roy Halladay to the Giants. You know what kind of pitchers do well against the Giants? The ones with noses. ... So do your worst, Phillies. I know the Giants hitters will.”
But somehow, they won. They’ve kept winning, over and over, and now there’s nothing left to win. So it’s time for the Giants and their fans to go nuts. More photos after the jump.
From the field...
...And finally, to the streets.
Thanks to the folks Getty Images—Stephen Lam, Doug Pensinger, Christian Petersen, and Ronald Martinez—for the outstanding photos commemorating last night's festivities.
