Giants-Rangers World Series Beats NFL In Nielsen Ratings, Loses To A Dancing Kurt Warner

In October, we noted that an abysmal Monday Night Football match-up trumped the ALCS in ratings. Thankfully, the Giants and Rangers finally made it over the hump last night:

World Series Game 5 did a 10.6/16 overnight and was the highest rated sports event of the night. #mlbonfox #mlb

Yes, yes, all well and good, but the NFL still beat MLB, in a manner of speaking.Fox’s World Series broadcast was not the most-watched segment of program last night. That honor goes to Dancing With The Stars, which barely beat it out with a 17.021 rating. Kurt Warner was featured in the episode.
I’d like to state that again, for the record: AMERICA WAS LESS INTERESTED IN WATCHING A HISTORIC WORLD SERIES-CLINCHING GAME THAN IT WAS IN WATCHING KURT WARNER DANCE AROUND. In other words, RETIRED QUARTERBACK DANCING > THE BEST BASEBALL CAN DO.
Let’s go back to the well and project competing broadcasts for upcoming World Series.
2011: Randall Cunningham doing the jitterbug (ABC)
2012: Randall Cunningham doing the jitterbug with fewer clothes on (HBO)
2013: Steve DeBerg doing the “here is the church, here is the steeple, open the doors and see all the people” thing you do with your hands (CBS)
2014: Neil Lomax jumps off sixth step of staircase and into a pile of couch cushions procured from the sofa in the living room (USA)
2015: Mike Tomczak kind of halfway does the “live long and prosper” gesture (SPIKE)
2016: Rick Mirer makes noise that sounds EXACTLY like an airplane (HIST)
2017: Bobby Hebert successfully extricates himself from Chinese finger trap (TNT)
2018: Rodney Peete does that thing where you stand to the side and just barely step on your tiptoes with one foot but keep the other foot flush with the ground so that it looks like you’re floating from a certain angle (SYFY)
2019: Billy Joe Tolliver stands motionless on a hopscotch court and begins to cry (AMC)

The NFL is set for the next decade. Give Cade McNown a kazoo and a reason to smile and they’re good for another five on top of that.
