Free Agent Adam Dunn Looking For Four-Year Contract

It’s been a fairly busy offseason to date, with free agents like Juan Uribe, Javier Vazquez, and Jorge de la Rosa already signing new contracts, David DeJesus getting traded and Troy Tulowitzki signing a monster extension. However, one name that hasn’t come up very often is that of free agent Adam Dunn, who seems to be taking things slowly as he looks for a new home.

The latest update we have comes courtesy of Yahoo!‘s Jeff Passan, and according to Passan, Dunn’s agent Greg Genske has informed teams that the bidding for his client will begin - begin - at four years and $60 million. It’s easy to see, then, why there’s been little movement to date, as Dunn’s asking price is high, even in what has so far been a generous market.

Holding Dunn back is that he has yet to really jump on board with the idea of being a designated hitter, even though a shift to the American League by the poor defensive player may be the only way to ensure he ends up getting paid well. It’s this same issue that led to Dunn setting for a two-year, $20 million contract with the Nationals in February of 2009. If Dunn goes on record as saying he’d be happy to DH, then that could help drive the market.
