Thursday night, Giants closer Brian Wilson appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for an interview, which can be seen below in two parts:
Brian Wilson Appears On Leno, Does Same Interview As Always
It’s hard to know what to do, here. On the one hand, Wilson’s Jim Rome interview from two months ago has 123,000 YouTube hits, and Leno’s viewership is at least twice that big, so it’s possible Leno and his writers figured most people hadn’t heard this stuff.
On the other hand, consider the topics: the beard, the cleats, being a reliever, the Machine, and so on. The purpose of an interview is to reveal new information, and this was all recycled material. Leno clearly had no interest in exploring other, as yet undiscovered sides of his guest - which, granted, one could argue might be wise - and as a result, the whole segment feels stale.
I’d be lying if I said that Wilson’s act isn’t starting to grow old to me, but I’m becoming more and more convinced that’s the fault of the people asking him questions. You can only do so much with so little.
