Troy Tulowitzki's September is the stuff of legend, and it just keeps getting better. Tonight, he victimized the Giants, going 4-for-5 with 5 RBI, hitting his 15th homer of the month, and topping his night off with a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the 10th, his fifth game-winning hit this year.
Troy Tulowitzki’s Hotter-Than-The-Sun September Continues With Walk-Off
He's hitting "only" .317 in September, and has "just" a very good .371 OBP, but his power has been otherworldly. Those homers have buoyed his slugging percentage to .854 on the month, which is .009 behind Barry Bonds' best season for slugging. (His 1.225 OPS and .508 wOBA are both in the Bonds region as well.) He's passed his teammate Carlos Gonzalez, an erstwhile MVP and Triple Crown candidate, in FanGraphs' WAR.
There’s a bunch more.
RBI may be more a function of an offense providing a hitter with baserunners than a product of a hitter’s work, but it’s staggering how many Tulowitzki has accrued this September. His 40 RBI are the second-most in September since 1920, trailing only some guy named Babe Ruth.
Scariest of all: Tulo has five September games left, and four are at Coors Field, where he's got a .336/.402/.626 line this season. It may not matter for the Rockies, who are still four games back of the Padres in the NL West and 3.5 games out of the wild card, but Tulowitzki's September is an individual effort for the ages.
