Ron Santo might never make the Hall of Fame, but he will be recognized in the way he would perhaps like even better: With a bronze statue outside Wrigley Field. Santo’s likeness will be the fourth in Chicago, following Harry Caray, Ernie Banks and Billy Williams.
Cubs To Honor Ron Santo With Statue, Then Break Its Stone Heart

In truth, though, no statue can quite do justice to Santo's place in Cubs' history. Not so much for his accomplishments on the field -- though, to be sure, it has to be hard to get a bronze sculpture to click its heels -- but because statues can't moan and yell and do all the other vocal gymnastics that made Santo even more beloved among Cubs fans once he moved to the broadcast booth.
↵The more intriguing news for the rest of the National League might be the fact that the Cubs will wear a Santo patch during the season. Sure, baseball teams use uniforms to commemorate important figures all the time, but the Cubs last wore a patch to honor a broadcaster in 1998, after the death of Caray. Chicago won the wild card that year with a largely unheralded group of players before being swept in the first round by the Braves, proving that they were still the Cubs that Santo spent his life following.
