Jason Giambi Returns To Rockies On Minor League Contract

Giambi’s contract is not guaranteed and he may not break camp with the team, but chances are good that he will, and should he end up on the Rockies’ bench and stay there all year, he stands to earn $1 million. He would presumably serve as a left-handed pinch-hitter off the bench to be deployed in the later innings.

The 40-year-old Giambi hasn’t been a true dominant force since 2006 and spent last season as a role player in Colorado, batting .244 with six home runs. He no longer has the power that once made him so terrifying. His OBP last year was .378, and it stands at .363 over the past four seasons.
