What If Jim Edmonds Had 2,300 Hits?

Discussing the presumed retirement of Jim Edmonds, our Jon Bois wrote, "Edmonds probably won't enter the Hall of Fame, because he just doesn't have the numbers ..." Which is true. Hall of Fame voters don't generally like outfielders (or anyone else) who didn't clear 2,000 hits. But what if we deploy Bill James' 500-for-325 swap? Five hundred walks for 325 singles? Now Edmonds has nearly 2300 hits and a .317 batting average (instead of .284) and I'll bet the voters give him a bit more love. Now, we're not making Edmonds a better player, just a slightly different player in terms of where his (immense) value comes from. As Joe Posnanski writes, we're still prejudiced against walks.
