The Marlins' new $535 million stadium in downtown Miami won't be open to the public until early 2012. Between now and then, a number of basic features will have to be installed, including grass, walls, and seats. But the shell is all in place, and that was good enough for a handful of players to swing by and take a little BP with the construction workers. Some pictures below!
Marlins Take Batting Practice In New Downtown Stadium
The Marlins attendance jokes practically write themselves, so I won't bother. What I will say is that, in addition to letting guys like Hanley Ramirez and Mike Stanton take some cuts, the Marlins also installed the stadium's first seat on Tuesday - a red chair at section 19, row H, seat 12. All the rest of the seats will be blue, but the commemorative red idea was an email submission from a fan.
May 2011 be the last year we ever have to see something like this.
