Really nice article from the Orange County Register’s Marcia C. Smith about the NCAA’s radical new bat regulations this season. Just one tiny snippet:
NCAA’s New Bats Look Like Game-Changer
↵
↵In a recent "Baseball America," Texas coach Augie Garrido lamented about how practice home run numbers are down about 75 percent, from 15 to 20 a BP to five or six, while Paul Mainieri, coach of the 2009 national champion LSU, reported fall intrasquad practice games homers dropping from 36 in 2008 to just six this past fall.

↵That’s just a flavor, and I strongly recommend Smith’s piece. I actually don’t devote more than three neurons per season to college baseball, but I think this will have a real impact on how scouts evaluate college hitters. I’ll get a few of them on the phone next week -- scouts, not college hitters -- and tell you what they think.
