Lefty Andrew Miller Attempting Latest Comeback

WEEI.com's Alex Speier has written probably everything you care to know about Andrew Miller, who signed a minor-league deal with the Red Sox when he almost certainly could have gotten a major-league deal with some other team.

↵Why did he do it? Apparently because he believes the Red Sox give him his best shot at getting his career back on track. Still only 25, the former No. 6 draft pick (just five years ago) enters this season with a 5.84 ERA in 294 career major-league innings. Essentially, Miller needs to maintain his strikeout rate while cutting his walks allowed by one or two per nine innings.

↵That’s a tall order, and Miller doesn’t even throw all that hard anymore, his fastball hovering in the low 90s last season. It’s true that a lot of high draft picks who do ultimately succeed take longer than expected. But we usually remember the successes and forget the failures. The odds aren’t on Miller’s side.
