Royals’ Alex Gordon Showing Off Retooled Swing

According to Royals hitting coach Kevin Seitzer, he's helped Alex Gordon rediscover the swing that made Gordon the No. 2 pick in the 2005 draft and a fantastic hitter during his one full season in the minors. Will it "work"? So far, so good:

↵↵Royals manager Ned Yost notices the changes.

↵“He’s been putting on shows in batting practice,” Yost said. “Granted it’s only been batting practice, but his swing looks different. He looks much, much better. The real judge will be in the games when you’re making adjustments off competitive pitching. It looks like the work is paying off for him. It’s just smoothing his swing out more than anything else, really just getting him short and just getting him to stay behind the ball and drive the ball.”

↵↵Gordon’s been waylaid by, among other things, hip surgery and a thumb injury. The organization probably has made some mistakes handling him, too. If he’s ever completely healthy, though, he’s probably going to have some good seasons.
