Mike Stanton Out With Quad Strain; Will Miss At Least Two Weeks
Stanton originally hurt himself running to first base during a game on Sunday. He came out after attempting to beat out a grounder, and was almost immediately diagnosed with a strained quad. It appeared to be a day-to-day situation, and Stanton showed up on Monday feeling better, but it seems the trainers gave him worse news than he expected, and he told reporters he’s going to miss at least two weeks. Stanton will be re-evaluated in a few days.
The Marlins are going to be cautious with their prized young slugger, as they ought to be. Leg injuries linger if they aren’t taken care of properly, and Stanton is being counted on to supply a lot of power from the middle of the order. Right now it isn’t clear whether he’ll be ready to go by Opening Day, but even if he isn’t, he shouldn’t be too far behind barring any setbacks. Stanton just needs to give himself time to heal.
