Carlos Silva is known for his aggressive spirit and a friend once told me that his presence on the Mariners caused former teammate Johan Santana to block a proposed trade to Seattle, so keep that in mind when you read this.
Carlos Silva Sucks, Fights, And Leaves
Silva started for the Cubs on Wednesday afternoon against the Brewers. He walked the first guy, allowed a homer to the second, and wound up allowing six runs before the end of the first. Then something else happened.
Scuffle in Cubs dugout. Silva removed from game. Oh my.
Following along on Twitter:
Silva going to backfield to get some running in. #Ridiculous.
Silva stakeout continues. Cubs say he's "not in right frame of mind to talk" yet
Silva stakeout enters OT. Cubs say "He doesn't want to talk." http://twitpic.com/45g05o
Silva left the building on cart w/o comment. Cubs have no comment either. http://twitpic.com/45g2t0
That’s all we’ve got for now, but still, what we know is that Carlos Silva was terrible, he was involved in a dugout altercation, and then he left on a cart. It doesn’t much matter that he isn’t yet in the right frame of mind to talk; I’m pretty sure we can piece together most of what happened without him.
Right now, Carlos Silva is one of several candidates vying for the Cubs' last rotation slot. He had a strong 2010 campaign before getting hurt, but given his track record both on and off the field, the Cubs may want to think long and hard about whether they want to brave another season with both Silva and Carlos Zambrano sharing a dugout. That's got the potential for some real nasty chemistry.
Update!
It was apparently Silva and Aramis Ramirez who were fighting. Ramirez had made an error during Silva’s six-run first inning, which totally justifies a subsequent blow-up.
