↵↵Spending just $10,873,000, a budget-conscious group of executives led by General Manager Sandy Alderson revamped half the roster, including the back end of the starting rotation, the bulk of the bullpen and virtually all of the bench.

Amazingly, this season the Mets are still going to spend ... well, I can't figure it out exactly, but it looks like more than $140 million to me. Including Oliver Perez's $12 million and Luis Castillo's $6 million (minus the minimum salaries paid by their new teams). I'm sure those budget-conscious executives have done well, but you can do only so well for $10.87 million.
