New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, Washington Nationals May Have Opening Day Weather Issues

Today is Opening Day: yay! Mother Nature doesn’t seem so excited about it: BOO! Will the Opening Day weather — there’s rain across America, and even a chance of snow in some places — impact your MLB team’s effort to get the 2011 season started on a high note? If you root for teams based in Washington, New York, or Cincinnati, maybe.

Weather.com has a rundown of weather forecasts for today's games, and, well, it looks like rain for Nationals vs. Braves in Washington, D.C. and Yankees vs. Tigers at Yankee Stadium in New York.

That’s not what you want, but the Washington Post says that a Nationals rainout is unlikely, while the official Yankees weather Twitter feed (!) notes that the Yankee Stadium gates are already open. Opening pitch for both of those games is still slated for 1:05 p.m. Eastern.

Elsewhere, after snowflakes earlier this week in Cincinnati, the Reds' home opener against the Brewers should be only be cold, not rainy; Kansas City might get light rain for Royals at Angels; and the Padres at Cardinals game in St. Louis will be cold and possibly a little wet, but probably not wet enough to delay the game.

And in Los Angeles, where the Dodgers host the defending World Series champion Giants to begin the 2011 season, it should be beautiful, both sunny and warm. Of course, those Dodgers fans will still be rooting for the Dodgers, so there's your "Into each life, a little rain must fall" note of the day, you lucky ducks.
