We’re all pretty familiar with baseball players coming out of the Caribbean with misleading personal information. But this is new:
Kendry Morales’ Name Has Been Wrong For At Least Seven Years
His given name on his birth certificate is spelled Kendrys, with an “s” on the end. Asked Wednesday which spelling he preferred, Morales was adamant about restoring the final consonant.
“No, no, no, no, no. They’ve been spelling it wrong,” he said in Spanish.
Morales' name is apparently right on all personal documents, but it seems that, back when he signed with the Angels in 2004, he told then-general manager Bill Stoneman that he wanted to drop the -s. That -s had evidently never been used to refer to him in English- or Spanish-language media circles anyway, and so his request didn't change much. But now he wants that -s back, for some reason, and everybody's left confused as to what prompted this change of heart. I can't make heads or tails of this, and I've been trying.
One thing’s for sure: as @tomcoach966 notes, some Angels staffers are gonna need to get busy painting.
