A few notes are after the jump.
First, “Fried Chicken and waffles,” she says, amazed. “Where did you come up with this?” To which we can only wonder, has Heidi Watney never heard of “chicken and waffles” before? Isn’t there some producer around to tell her that’s not a revolutionary concept?
Second, “The Fried Trio”... Fried cookie dough, fried twinkies, and funnel cake french fries.
Jesus Christ, Cleveland.
Third, kudos to the NESN production team for sticking with this segment. Even when it looked like she was going to vomit and there was a solid 30 seconds of tremendously awkward silence, NESN stuck with Heidi’s report. That takes editorial conviction that you just don’t see very often these days. If you’re gonna run with a quirky, meaningless food story, see it through to the end. Ya know? If she pukes, she pukes.
Finally, in case you forgot you were watching the Red Sox, Jerry Remy chimes in at the end to tell Heidi: “Don’t fahget youah Crestorah!” ... THAT’S WHY HE’S PRESIDENT OF SAWX NATION, BUD.
