April is usually pretty early to start handing out college baseball superlatives but wrap this one up and put a bow on it: Alex Buccilli of Coastal Carolina has, without question, just won Best Batting Stance of the Year. Perhaps not even at the college level, either. This one might be the best stance we’ll see at any level of baseball in 2012.

Busted Coverage brings this outstanding moment in stancery to our attention. During Tuesday’s game between Coastal Carolina and Clemson (part of their annual Alliterative Series), Buccilli came to the plate, giving viewers an eyeful of this:
It’s like you’re taking crazy pills, right? It’s a hybrid Carl Crawford-Jeff Bagwell-Craig Counsell monstrosity, rushing forward to samurai-chop poor unsuspecting No. 21 there. That’s the side view of his pre-pitch “stance.” Here’s the full at-bat:
Some would say that it’s disappointing he goes into a “normal” stance before the pitch is thrown and that the wacky “guess I better not do any LUNGES” stance is just to keep his timing in order. To that, I say: dude, did you see the so-called “normal” stance? The guy has his right leg completely out of the batter’s box! He’s basically doing the splits!
Also, let us not lose sight of one other extremely awesome bit of info: Alex Buccilli appears to be Jose Altuve-level short. He is barely taller than the catcher in the squat when standing up straight. God bless you, Alex Buccilli. May you make it to the show and give us 20 years of guffawing at your tiny, insane antics.
