They were a preseason favorite to win their sixth straight NL East title as well as the World Series, but the Philadelphia Phillies continue to tumble down the baseball futures betting list.

The latest setback came Tuesday when Roy Halladay was shut down for six to eight weeks to rest his wonky shoulder. With Ryan Howard and Chase Utley on the DL indefinitely, bettors are starting to fade the Phillies.
“We moved them to 14/1 from 11/1 this morning on the Halladay news,” said Kevin Bradley of Bovada. “They are down to 5/1 from 4/1 to win the National League as well.”
The Halladay shutdown, combined with Roy Oswalt’s sudden signing in Texas, was one reason.Oswalt was a rumored short-term fix for the Phillies, having played there last season.
The continued solid play of the Washington Nationals and the strength of the Atlanta Braves also play a role in the fading Philly fortunes, according to Mike Pickett of OddsShark.com.
