More and more these days, bats are ending up in the stands at Major League Baseball games. If you're sitting along the third-base line and watching a Cody Ross at-bat, for example, there's probably a one-in-two chance you're about to see a Louisville Slugger helicoptering its way toward your orbital bone. If you're lucky, you'll have a souvenir instead of a broken jaw. Of course, if you're Spike Lee, you're pretty much just always lucky.
Spike Lee Grabs Yankees Souvenir, Demonstrates Mo’ Batter Blues
On Sunday, Lee attended a game between the Los Angeles Angels and the New York Yankees and ended up snagging a wayward bat flung by Mark Teixeira. You can see Lee grab the bat and celebrate with a few lefty swings below.
Many were asking for Lee to Do the Right Thing and return the bat, but don’t act like anyone was Bamboozled here. Teixeira can afford MANY bats, so it’s not like He’s Gotta Have It. Many were wondering whether Lee’s batting stance was tipping his hand about whether He Got Game, but it’s likely that the filmmaker hasn’t played any organized sports since School Daze.
The Yankees, despite losing the game, are sure to be giving Teixeira plenty of ribbing later on, when they Get on the Bus. They may even start early, while they’re still hanging out in the clubhouse at their (C)lockers. After all, why wait til the 25th Hour for a little good-natured razzing?
