With the Phillies on a modest three-game win streak and with their injury-plagued roster getting healthy, are they a solid bet to go on a run?
They visit Los Angeles Tuesday (no line had been posted as yet at most sportsbooks) looking to avenge a four-game home sweep at the hands of the Dodgers this spring.
Runs were a bit hard to come by Monday night around MLB, leading to eight of 12 games staying ‘under’ on the totals. How might the totals play out on Tuesday?
Notably, of the four games that were lined with totals of 10 and above Monday, three played 'under;' the Rockies beat the Pirates in Denver 5-4 with a total of 10; the Red Sox beat the White Sox at Fenway 5-1 with a total of 10.5; and the Yanks beat the Blue Jays 6-3 at The Stadium with a total of 11.
For Tuesday the games with the highest totals include the Tigers and Angels (who went 'over' 10 Monday) in Detroit at 10; the Soxes at Fenway at 10; and the Pirates and Rockies at 11.
Elsewhere Tuesday the Nationals and Ross Detwiler are -120 favorites over Jon Niese and the fading Mets; Jair Jurrjens and the Braves are -145 faves over the visiting Giants with Barry Zito; the Yanks with CC Sabathia coming off the DL are -230 favorites (and rising) over Brett Cecil and the Bautista-less Blue Jays; Jon Lester and the BoSox are -170 chalk over Phil Humber and the ChiSox; and the Rangers with Roy Oswalt are -110 road favorites at Oakland with Bartolo Colon.
